Hi, welcome to our website for Lucero! We are a group of students from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, and we are taking part in a social entrepreneurship competition organised by the Citibank and YMCA. This competition is the Youth For Causes 2008! We have a Star-O-Meter, which is a transparent cylinder, and we want YOU to fold stars and drop it into the star-o-meter! One star, two stars, three stars... The stars will accumulate to a certain level, and depending on the height, sponsors will donate money, to Child@st11, our beneficiary! Also, we will be selling these really beautiful portable plastic fans, and all the proceeds will also go to Child@Street11!
So, what are you waiting for? Help us give these kids these opportunities! Funds raised will be used to hold an art exhibition for these kids, so please, please donate to us, for we are just waiting for you, to ignite the star in them!
REIGNITE THOSE FALLEN STARS.
Now.
Child@Street11 Ltd is a childcare centre, but no ordinary childcare centre. It is one, that aspires to help kids from dysfunctional families to break out of the poverty cycle that they are trapped in, and they really involve the kids in doing the things they love! Yesterday we went down to the centre itself, and it was so colourfully decorated!
Child@Street 11 Ltd used to have some Malay name that means "gift of hope", and it was set up in 1995 by a group of volunteers, hoping to give to society, but felt that just monetary donations were not enough. Thus, they set up this childcare centre to help these underprivileged children, and give them the chance to lead a normal life. However, it was soon that the cost of operation of the childcare centre was too much, more than the funds collected. As a result, the company could not sustain the cost of running this centre, and losses just kept increasing. It was none too soon that this childcare centre had to close down. Fortunately, there was this group of professionals, who decided to come in, and revamp the whole structure of this childcare centre. They held a charity dinner, and they renamed the childcare centre "Child@ Street 11 Ltd". they started collaborating closely with corporate partners and many other people, and things took a turn for the better. Now, they have developed a really good integrated programme for these kids, and they really educate the children in very fun and hands-on ways!
When we went there, we saw a lot of nice artwork that the children created, and it was really impressive! In one corner of the arts space hung a really nice light made of christmas lights and decorated with coloured paper and plastic. It resembled those yang liu flowers you display during Chinese New Year! Actually, this project was inspired when Child @ Street 11 brought their kids to the Istana one week before National Day, and the kids were really fascinated by the wide array of chandeliers in the Istana itself. Thus, they decided to start up this project to create their own light, just like the chandelier, and so, this wonderous creation hangs proudly in the centre! Not only that, these kids got the opportunity to draw for big figures, like Lee Hsien Loong, and the Princess of Thailand! Amazing, right? These kids have so much talent, that are just slowly waiting to be discovered...
So come on down and help us! :D

GET READY FOR A WILD ADVENTURE!
Lucero has big dreams. We want to do good.
We want to spread awareness of Make-A-Wish. We want a lot. But we can make it all happen!
Volunteers play an essential role in our project, as we need people to advertise, be a mobile fan-seller cum advertiser, have people man the stall and teach crane folding, and lots more. We need your help.
Then, you might ask, what's in it for you? A very rewarding experience and great satisfaction. And, of course, CIP hours! We're gonna settle with our school, and if you're not from NUSHS, we can look into contacting your school and agreeing on something.
And if this doesn't sound good enough to you, then just join, and take a ride on the business express. We're gonna have to do some serious advertising, and lots of contact with total strangers. We absolutely guarantee you'll learn some communication and social skills, which will be very useful to you in the future.
And, if all this still doesn't sound good enough, then just join.
For fun and for a GOOD cause.
